How to stay "Marketing Motivated"

Here are some tips.

  1. Make sure you have a plan. I read recently that for every ten minutes of planning, we can save ourselves an entire hour. Marketing a practice often takes a back seat to other priorities - including seeing clients and doing our administrative work. We tend not to plan what we want to do and then make time in our schedule for it. Consider what marketing activities you want to do this month and put them in your date book.

  2. Do only what you love. If you are not a gifted speaker and, in fact, public speaking ranks right up there with oral surgery for you, then do not have "giving presentations" as part of your marketing plan. Pick something else. If you are more introverted, why not schedule some one-on-one meetings with potential referral sources? If you find people who also service your target market and build relationships with them, the possibilities are endless.

  3. Record your successes daily. We have discussed this before in regard to goal setting. But, if you make it a practice to write down your marketing attempts and results daily, you will find yourself with much more motivation to do more marketing.

  4. Watch your schedule. I am convinced that most of us book at least twice as much as we can actually do each day. Try putting only two-thirds of what you'd like to accomplish into your daily planner. You will probably find yourself feeling more successful at the end of each day and more motivated the next.

  5. Have a support group or accountability partner. When I have a personal trainer waiting for me at the gym, I show up. When I don't...well you can guess what happens. Make sure you have a person or a group of people with whom you can set goals, get feedback on your plans and share success and wins. Don't forget to take time off too! We all need "down time" (otherwise we get very down!)

Happy practice building!
